First Look: The Track-Only Ford GT Mk II
Ford and Multimatic revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed the Ford GT Mk II, a limited-edition, track-only GT that represents the next stage in Ford GT performance.
With a 700 horsepower 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, race-proven aerodynamics and competition-oriented handling, the GT Mk II has been co-developed by Ford Performance and Multimatic based on competitive learnings from Ford’s successful FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship campaigns with the Ford GT race car yet GT Mk II is engineered independent of race series rules, regulations and limitations.
Limited to just 45 vehicles, with a starting MSRP of $1.2 million, the GT Mk II joins the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans winning race car & the Ford GT supercar.
Built in Markham, Ontario, the Mk II begins life at the main Ford GT plant before being transferred to a specialist facility at Multimatic Motorsports where it is crafted into the Ford GT Mk II.
The Best of Both Worlds
The Ford GT Mk II is focused around aerodynamic and engine improvements and shares key features with both the street-legal GT supercar as well as the GT race car. Many of its components have been track-proven in the world’s most challenging endurance racing events.
The large dual-element rear wing exceeds what the Ford GT race car offers in terms of downforce. An all-new front racing splitter and diffuser have been incorporated along with new fender louvers and dive planes, which help balance out the extra rear downforce.
These aggressive aerodynamic changes enable the GT Mk II to generate over 400 percent more downforce than the Ford GT while fixed aerodynamic elements along with its race-proven suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport racing tires enable the car to pull more than 2Gs of lateral grip.
GT Mk II is also lighter and more agile. The street car’s adjustable ride height and drive modes have been removed, providing a weight savings of over 200 pounds while 5-way adjustable DSSV shock absorbers work with a lowered and fixed ride height to improve handling and keep the Mk II as aerodynamically efficient as possible.
The Ford GT Mk II features the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that powers both the Ford GT race car and the road car but since the Mk II is not limited by any racing sanctioning body it is able to generate 200 horsepower more than the race car, making the Mk II the most powerful version of the Ford GT. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost is paired with the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission from the Ford GT but specially calibrated for this track-exclusive application.
To add stamina to power, the GT Mk II adds innovative engine cooling technology, including a high capacity air-to-air outboard mounted charge air cooler with water spray technology. The water spray automatically activates in high temperature situations to provide cooling by applying atomized water on the charge air cooler allowing the Ford GT Mk II to maintain a consistent level of power at high temperatures.
A roof-mounted intake reminiscent of the race car engine air intake has been added for the Mk II to feed auxiliary engine, clutch and transmission coolers, giving the Mk II optimal cooling for the most extreme track day duty.
Increased engine power is paired with improved stopping power. The Mk II features braking performance beyond that of the GT race car by utilizing the street car’s carbon ceramic brakes, including 15.5-inch front and 14.1-inch rear Brembo brakes. Unique forged aluminum 19-inch wheels cover the massive brakes with race-proven Michelin Pilot Sport GT tires.
The front fascia and hood of the Mk II are similar to the street car as well as the stylized Ford GT headlamps with signature running lights.
Interior changes include a bespoke Sparco racing seat with a six-point racing harness and an optional passenger seat. A full MoTeC data acquisition system has also added to provide vital information for a track racer, which also doubles as a display for the rear camera.

The Ford GT production car, which made its first Goodwood appearance in 2017, is the most advanced and exclusive Ford road car ever, limited to volumes of no more than 250 a year, globally.
Built for the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, the Ford GT race car has been a great success for Ford, winning the GTE Pro class at Le Mans on its first attempt in 2016, exactly 50 years on from the first of four successive Le Mans victories for the Ford GT40 at Le Mans.
Ford ended its competitive GT racing program in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the 2019 Le Mans in the GTE Pro class. The Ford GTs will continue to race through the remainder of the IMSA season which culminates at Road Atlanta in October.
The GT Mk II makes its public debut running in the Supercar class at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and will be sold directly to customers by Multimatic.
The Porsche Taycan Visits the Festival of Speed
For the first time, Porsche is adding an electric sports car to its line-up on the legendary Goodwood hill. The debut is part of the Porsche Triple Demo Run, in which the Taycan will make three appearances on three continents in three weeks. At Goodwood, the prototype will compete with a union flag graphic on the roof and Mark Webber at the wheel.
“The Taycan’s power delivery is awesome,” reports the experienced F1 driver. “I took part in this event in a Porsche 911 GT2 RS two years ago, so I already knew that it all comes down to power and traction. But, even for a thoroughbred racing driver like me, it is amazing how the Taycan – even though it’s still a prototype – accelerates off the start and out of the corners,” says Webber.
The Taycan will be presented in September and launched on the market at the end of the year. As to be expected from the Porsche brand, the development goals for the all-wheel drive vehicle with over 600 PS included circuit performance and multiple acceleration runs, as well as a range suitable for everyday use. The car’s 800-volt architecture will enable short charging times and the lithium-ion battery will boast a capacity of around 90 kWh.

Ferrari has shown off the P80/C at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, a one-off exclusive hypercar that draws inspiration from some of the greatest racing cars ever to come out of Maranello.
Goodwood Festival of Speed Debut of the McLaren GT
The new McLaren GT toured the Goodwood estate for its global dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed today in front of an audience of thousands.
Just before midday the McLaren GT appeared from the Fox Gates at the front of Goodwood House, announced by TV presenter Nicki Shields. Taking the wheel of the rule-breaking McLaren GT, Shields drove the car on its debut run up Goodwood Hill and its first dynamic public appearance. The McLaren GT completed four further hill runs throughout the afternoon with Le Mans class-winner Jonny Kane and GT racer Ollie Millroy taking over driving duties.
The McLaren of Grand Tourers – McLaren’s modern interpretation of the classic GT – was revealed online on May 15. Superlight, yet supremely comfortable, the McLaren GT is powered by a 620PS 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, providing supercar performance. It accelerates from 0-100km/h (0-60mph) in 3.2 seconds and on to 326km/h (203mph), and can carry up to 570 liters of luggage – enough for a grand tour for two people.
The McLaren GT also performs on the inside with luxurious trim options including Nappa leather, softgrain leather or Alcantara®, and seats unique to the McLaren GT that are designed for long distance comfort. The luggage bay can also be trimmed with SuperFabric, developed to be resistant to stains, cuts, nicks and abrasions, as well as being breathable, easy to clean and quick to dry.
The McLaren GT’s interior also features hidden-until-lit ambient lighting and the option of an electrochromic glazed panel to enhance ambience in the cabin, which is also trimmed with machined and knurled aluminium switches and controls.
The infotainment system developed for the new McLaren GT is the company’s most sophisticated to date, featuring industry-standard HERE navigation and real-time traffic information and it can also be linked to an optional 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system. The McLaren GT is priced from £163,000 (UK).
Maserati Levante GTS Debuts at Goodwood: FoS
Maserati has chosen the 25th Goodwood Festival of Speed for the World Premiere of the new Levante GTS. The V8 Maserati of SUVs is the sibling version of the top-of-the line Levante Trofeo, which also makes its European debut today at one of the most prestigious automotive events in the world. The Festival of Speed, which since 1993 provides an exhilarating mix of glamorous cars and motorsport stars and is expected to attract more than 200,000 visitors over the four day event.
The Levante GTS Twin Turbo V8 maintains the V90 architecture of the 3.8-liter unit fitted in the flagship Quattroporte GTS but has been re-engineered to work with the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System and retuned to deliver 550hp (404 kW) at 6,250 rpm and 730 Nm peak torque between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. Like all Maserati petrol engines, this V8 is assembled by Ferrari in Maranello.
Thanks to its remarkable weight/power ratio of 3.9 kg/hp the Levante GTS takes only 4.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h, while its top speed is 292 km/h – performance figures of a modern supercar disguised in a high-end SUV body.
McLaren 600LT to Debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The quickest, most powerful and most track-focused – yet road legal – Sports Series McLaren will make its dynamic world debut tomorrow (July 12) at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The arrival of the new 600LT, which is built to excel on roads and race circuits alike, marks both the beginning of the next chapter in the McLaren ‘Longtail’ (LT) story and the setting of a new benchmark for super-sportscar performance.
The new McLaren 600LT epitomizes the McLaren philosophy of producing lightweight super-sportscars that deliver extreme performance and are exceptionally rewarding to drive. With the engine management system of the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 recalibrated and less back pressure from a top-exit exhaust system that is even shorter and more extreme than that of the McLaren Senna allowing the engine to breathe more freely, the 600LT can call on peak power of 600PS (592bhp) at 7,500rpm and a maximum torque output of 620Nm (457lb ft) at 5,500-6,500rpm.
These outputs deliver astonishing performance: 0-100km/h (62mph) takes just 2.9 seconds, matching the acceleration of the McLaren 675LT Super Series model. 0-200km/h (124mph) is achieved in a remarkable 8.2 seconds and the 600LT can continue gathering speed to a top speed of 328km/h (204mph).
