First Look: The New MSO Bespoke McLaren 720S

A unique McLaren 720S supercar designed by McLaren Operations (MSO) is the centerpiece of the McLaren display at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show, which takes place November 14 – 18, 2017.

Created as an MSO Bespoke commission, the service from McLaren Special Operations that allows almost limitless enhancement and personalization of McLaren cars, the 720S is in Zenith Black paint with a satin finish. Gold-colored alloy wheels, a 24-carat gold engine heatshield and gold-colored interior components complement the exterior color.

A plaque inside the car identifies it as a ‘1 of 1’ MSO commission, a fact also communicated by the unique rear wing that bears part of a famous quote* by McLaren founder, Bruce McLaren: ‘Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone’, is painted across the upper surface of the wing in gold Arabic lettering, stylized to echo the Dubai city skyline.

To personalize the car added more than 120 hours to the production process. The rear wing alone took 30 hours to complete, using stencils produced by the MSO design visualization team to achieve the desired dramatic visual impact of the gold lettering.

With McLaren 720S Performance specification as the starting point – and in addition to the MSO Bespoke elements – the commission added carbon fiber exterior upgrade packs that together encompass the front splitter and air intakes, rear bumper and roof panel. The rear diffuser is also a carbon fiber option, while the door mirror arms, rear aero bridge and deck and engine covers are all from the MSO Defined range of carbon fiber components.

The interior of the car is equally special: black Alcantara® and black leather trim are complemented by MSO Defined carbon fiber sill panels, fascia vents and steering wheel, in addition to a regular carbon fiber interior upgrade pack. The MSO Bespoke team added satin gold-painted extended gearshift paddles, a satin gold-colored center band to the steering wheel and pinstriping in the same hue to the spokes. A gold-colored applique on each door inner completes the visual treatment.

The new owner of the MSO Bespoke McLaren 720S on display at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show will take delivery of the car from McLaren Dubai when the Show finishes. They will enjoy a McLaren supercar powered by a 4.0 V8 twin-turbocharged engine and capable of accelerating from 0 – 200km/h (0 – 124mph) in just 7.8 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 341km/h (212mph).

McLaren Special Operations Creates Besoke MSO R Pair One…

McLaren Special Operations Creates Besoke MSO R Pair

One customer will shortly be taking delivery of two unique McLarens, created to their individual specification by McLaren Special Operations (MSO). Called the MSO R Coupé and MSO R Spider, they are the latest in a lineage of McLarens produced as personal commissions, a service that sees the customer working closely with MSO to agree the direction, scope and specification of a project.

The two MSO R cars, which have the same external, internal & mechanical specifications, are finished in a striking Liquid Silver – the Coupé in satin and the Spider in gloss finish – with a carbon fiber central stripe. Immediately identifiable as a matched pair, both have the same design of twin-element rear wing, with front dive planes to further enhance aerodynamic performance.

The front bumper, bonnet, louvered fenders, roof scoop and rear deck are all MSO Visual Carbon Fibre (VCF) components, as are the side mirror arms and casings and wiper scuttle.  Pinstriping in Delta Red features on the front splitter and side blades, while the splitter, side skirts, sill panels, rocker panels and plenum cover carry MSO R branding.  The wheels of both cars are the same 5-spoke design, finished in satin black on the Coupé & gloss black on the Spider.

The interior design of the cars is arguably even more distinctive than the exterior.  Both cabins feature Alcantara trim material throughout. Primarily in black with red stitching, the theme is reversed for the seats, which are red with black stitching and feature an MSO R logo embroidered in black on the headrest.  The steering wheel has a carbon fiber upper and lower, with black Alcantara® grips and a Delta Red centring stripe.  Switches are in gloss black and vent mechanisms are satin black, with bezels in carbon fiber.

This MSO Personal Commission did not stop at visual and design changes.  The engines of both cars have been blueprinted and the heads and exhaust ports hand-polished, helping to give the M838TL twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engine maximum power of 688PS (679bhp) and up to 700Nm (516lb ft).  The exhaust system, which has a ‘crossover’ muffler to increase pipe length and optimize gas flow, features titanium end pipes.

Started with an MSO R-branded key, both the Coupé and the Spider feature bespoke IRIS screen and instrument cluster displays and gear-shift lights.  The final visual touch is a dedication plaque on each car identifying them as McLarens designed to an MSO Personal Commission, taking them from being a rare car to a unique one – or in this case, a unique matched pair.

First Look: The Bespoke MSO McLaren 570GT in XP Green

A limited number of bespoke McLaren 570GT models will this month become available to a fortunate few McLaren buyers in the UK & Europe. Commissioned from McLaren Special Operations as an MSO Collection, the 6 cars are finished in McLaren historic ‘XP Green’ exterior paint – the same color as the famous F1 XP GT ‘Longtail’ homologation model built in 1997. The Saddle Tan leather interior additionally features green leather inserts in the seats and green contrast stitching, as well as a dedication plaque mounted on the center tunnel beneath the infotainment screen identifying each car as one of six in the Collection.

The exterior of the car is adorned with Saddle Tan aero pin-striping edging the front aero blades, side skirts and rear diffuser, while each door carries a stripe of the same color that runs rearwards from a subtle Union Jack emblem finished in silver-grey. MSO Black exterior components replace the front splitter, door inserts, side air intakes, side skirts and rear bumper, diffuser and spoiler, all of which would usually be finished in Dark Palladium or body color.

McLaren to Reveal New Bespoke 720S at Pebble Beach

A one-of-kind McLaren 720S will make its public debut this weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California.  The Bespoke division of McLaren Special Operations crafted the unique McLaren supercar, to the specification of entrepreneur and philanthropist, Michael Fux.  McLaren Chief Executive Officer, Mike Flewitt, presented the car to Mr Fux in Monterey, ahead of it being displayed on the ‘Concept Lawn’ on Concours Sunday,

The exterior paint color immediately identifies the car as being designed to order, a service available to all McLaren customers through McLaren Special Operations.  Named ‘Fux Fuchsia’, the color was created for Mr Fux by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited and subsequently redeveloped by MSO; Mr Fux will retain exclusive rights to its use on any other McLaren vehicle.

The distinctive hue also features as a detail on the lightweight wheels, contrasting with the platinum finish of the alloy.  Inside the car, door appliqués, a pinstripe on the steering wheel and even the rear-view mirror are all in body color, providing highlights of fuchsia in a cabin that is otherwise resplendent from headlining to cup holder – and almost everything in between – in MSO Bespoke white leather with white stitching. White Alcantara floor mats, again with white stitching, complete the theme.

In addition to the bespoke elements of the vehicle, the exhaust and window surrounds are in Stealth grey finish and carbon fiber components from the MSO Defined range have also been specified.  These can be ordered on any McLaren, of any color.

Michael Fux is renowned as a collector of highly desirable, rare cars and has previously commissioned a McLaren 12C in McLaren Orange, a 12C Spider in bespoke purple and a McLaren P1 in bespoke green.
